You’ll have to pinch yourself to believe you’re basking in the beauty that is Le Sirenuse. As John Steinbeck once put it, it’s a dream place that isn’t quite real when you’re there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone. Many travelers have fallen in love with this family-run villa?s romantic arches, vaulted ceilings and handmade floor tiles. Spend afternoons on the sunny terrace, taking in views of Positano, Capri and Li Galli. Enjoy an evening cocktail in the romantic Champagne Bar, followed by dinner in the gorgeous sea-view restaurant, La Sponda. An Aveda beauty center and spa facilities provide tempting diversion.

It’s easy to see why Ravello, and the entire Amalfi Coast, has inspired the likes of Richard Wagner, D.H. Lawrence and Gore Vidal. Belmond Hotel Caruso has long been a favorite of discriminating globetrotters. Just 51 guestrooms and suites make for an intimate ambience, and most of the rooms have a sea view, terrace or private garden. Outside, the infinity swimming pool sits dramatically suspended between sea and sky. Join the head gardener for a private tour of the terraced gardens, enjoy the complimentary boat cruise along the Amalfi Coast, then reserve a romantic candlelit dinner at the open-air Belvedere Restaurant.

Myanmar
Myanmar is a nation on the cusp of great change, and there’s never been a better time to go than right now, before it loses the look of old Asia. Yangon, the country’s largest city and once a key port in the British Empire, is lined with colonial-era buildings. Here, you’ll see Shwedagon Pagoda, among the holiest sites in Myanmar. Its central stupa is covered in gold—not gold leaf, but thick plates of gold. Stay at the Belmond Governor’s Residence, a 1920s mansion set in the leafy embassy district, and eat at local favorite Feel, which serves excellent noodles. The life of the country truly unfolds along the rivers, so opt for a cruise between Yangon and Mandalay, the last royal capital of the former Burma.

cruise the galapagos islands
Ecuador’s Galápagos Islands continue to lure travelers 600 miles out into the Pacific. Where else can you watch a marine iguana dive for seaweed, with a blue-footed booby circling overhead, or size up short-feathered penguins darting along the equator? Follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin, who famously explored the area in 1835: there’s prime animal viewing on the largest island, Isabela, which is home to 70 percent of the archipelago’s wildlife. Here, you can visit a tortoise breeding center and snorkel with gentle sharks. Isabela also has the region’s best beach, in the little-known Puerto Villamil, where you’ll spot a variety of marine animals. Cruising remains the best option, and most boats—like the 100-passenger Silversea Galápagos from Silversea Cruises—pair travelers with naturalists. The new carbon-neutral Pikaia Lodge, home to a giant tortoise reserve, is pioneering a hybrid land-and-sea-based experience. The lodge pulls out all the stops: floor-to-ceiling windows, private terraces, and a spa.
patagonia
Exploring the Patagonian Fjords located at the southernmost tip of South America shared by Argentina and Chile is the perfect spot to spend some time outdoors hiking and kayaking. A popular travel route is to begin at the Perito Moreno Glacier in the Andes. The giant glacier spans 121 miles and is still growing; nearby there are several excellent hiking paths. Two other must-try activities are hiking through Los Glaciares National Park to see the rugged mountains and glacial lakes, along with kayaking past Mount Fitz Roy and Upsala Glacier.

The arctic: Polar bears, walrus and bowhead whale safari
With Bespoke Client, Michael Meltzer on his family’s journey to the Canadian Arctic, and why a trip to the Arctic is just what you’re looking for …
The summer is an incredible time to visit the Arctic! We had the chance to experience the midnight sun, with 24-hour sunshine from May to July, and extended daylight in August. Traveling in the summer months, meant the weather is also milder – with temperatures up to 20C! We got to experience snorkeling, kayaking and boating, and of course seeing wildlife including whales, walrus and polar bears.
Can’t find it? Don’t worry. Just because it’s not here, doesn’t mean we can’t do it.
